Position Summary

Within a consultant business setting, the Health & Safety Transit Specialist is responsible for supporting a client within the Surface Transit Infrastructure Team. This position reports to the HSE Operations Managing Principal. This position is accountable for responsibilities ranging from overseeing a construction project from a health & safety perspective, assisting in physical hazardous demands analysis, and auditing workplace construction activities to identify and rectify hazard concerns for the client.

Some Key Responsibilities

• Conduct project level inspections and audits as required

• Provides expertise and advice to clients, colleagues and management on health, safety and environmental issues

• Provides internal and external reports, timesheets and other required documentation

• Supports Occupational Safety, Health, & Wellbeing strategies

• Conducts regular safety inspections/audits of the jobsites, public areas, and areas adjacent thereto, take necessary and timely corrective actions to eliminate unsafe acts or conditions and to fulfill the needs and expectations of the client

• Assists with on-site incidents, accidents, investigations and H&S requirements

• Identifies opportunities to expand or obtain new client opportunities leveraging on CrossSafety Holdings Inc Services

• Performs other duties as assigned to support the team

Qualifications/Requirements

• Certificate or Diploma in Health and Safety, or equivalent training and experience

• Professional designation is preferred – NCSO, CRST, CHSC, or equivalent

• Minimum 3 to 5 years of direct onsite safety experience

• Experience in transportation and heavy civil construction is a strong asset

• Working knowledge of Ontario OHSA and Regulations and Regulations for Construction projects

• Field level safety audit and inspection experience

• Demonstrated experience in public safety, testing and commissioning, and operational safety, ideally in the transit or rail industry

• Work experience as a representative of the owner

• Proficient with computer applications, tablets and the Microsoft Office suite of products

• Effective communication, presentation, and consultation skills

• Effective written communication skills and interpersonal skills
